Mobile Voice Calls vs. Text Messages
by: Paul Saarinen
It has been interesting to see how my mobile phone usage has changed in the last year. Before Twitter, and some other services, I would very rarely crack 100 text messages sent and received. I’ve also noticed not a diminishing number of voice calls, but my average call length has diminished quite noticeably. Let me know what your last month’s usage was like, and feel free to response in the comments or on Seemic.

From Aug 26 – Sept. 25:
Voice calls – 208
Text mssg – 185
Sept. 26 – Oct 25:
Voice calls – 57
Text mssg – 270
so – I guess it changes on a monthly basis. I get 150 free text mssgs per month (I think) so…

A friend called me on Christmas eve and we were joking about how we had forgotten that blackberry’s and iPhones can be used for phone calls. My phone usuage has gone way down. I do a lot on twitter and use text messaging and email more and more. I recently upgraded my plan to include more text messages. They are fast and easy and I never get voice mail. Phone calls are more intrusive. My friends know that if they want to get my attention right away a text message wroks best.
